Meeting Highlights:

  • TBMS Principal Dan Hudder described the school improvement plan for the 2025-2026 academic year. The plan has two main goals: improved academic achievement for all students and enhanced academic growth for English language learners. The principal explained the use of various assessment tools, including the STAR assessment, to track student progress and set benchmarks for success. He also detailed the curriculum review process, the establishment of Tier 2 structures for targeted interventions during the Flex Block, and efforts to promote social-emotional learning and belonging among students.

Assistant Superintendent Dana Labb and Dan Hudder introduced a new policy document for vocational education that needs to be submitted to DESE in November. They presented the new Career and Technical Education (CTE) policy, which outlines how HPS will provide middle school students with information about high school pathway options, including CTE programs at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, through various initiatives like summer camps, after-school sessions, and school tours. They also discussed the importance of communicating vocational education opportunities to families.

Ms. Ostaszewski, the Director of School Finance and Operations, presented a budget update,  noting the district is in good shape overall, having expended approximately 14% of the budget at this point in the year.  Dr. Dwight provided updates on facility projects, including an elementary school fence, a sewage pipe backup, and the installation of new hot water tanks at The Bromfield School. The committee also discussed a mold issue in the cable studio, which is currently being remediated. The costs will be covered by insurance. Ms. Ostaszewski and Mr. Tarlach, the Facilities Director, were praised for their quick responses and problem-solving skills in addressing these facility needs.

The School Committee eagerly approved clubs and grants, including the approval of a new Math Honor Society club and multiple grants from the Harvard Schools Trust and the PTO. Members of the School Committee expressed their appreciation to the Harvard Schools Trust and the PTO for their generous grant funding.
