The Harvard Public School District has a long-standing reputation for excellence and remains committed to providing an exceptional learning environment for each student we serve. Our distinguished record on the MCAS and other standardized test measures can be attributed to the hard work of our student body, the dedicated and passionate efforts of an exceptional teaching faculty, and tremendous support from parents and community members. Beyond academics we also greatly value the arts, athletics, and community service. A hallmark of our schools remains the quality of the personal relationships between staff and students.
There is no greater responsibility we have as citizens in a democracy than to provide for the education of our children. Harvard can take a great deal of pride in the way this community has met that challenge. Parental participation is a cornerstone of our district. Myriad community organizations provide volunteer service and funding to help us create a rich learning environment and provide enrichment opportunities for our students.
Ours is a district committed to continuous improvement. One current area of focus is to strengthen and support our early literacy initiative with the goal of bringing all readers to proficiency in their primary school years. Also, we are seeking to strengthen and differentiate instruction so that we can more effectively meet the needs of all learners, regardless of their learning style.
In closing, I offer that education is a partnership and that excellence can only be maintained by a collaborative effort between all stakeholders. In my tenure here I’ve already come to see the power of that collaboration focused on the best interests of children. I welcome the opportunity to hear from you and can be contacted via email tjefferson@psharvard.org or at my office in the Bromfield House (978-456-4140).
Sincerely,
Thomas W. Jefferson, Ed.D.
